Weak AC Cooling and Low Airflow

Find the cause of weak cooling or low airflow before the room becomes uncomfortable.

Rishthaa technician working on the front panel of a wall-mounted split AC indoor unit

A clear first answer

Weak cooling often starts with restricted airflow, dirty filters or coils, an obstructed outdoor unit or a refrigerant fault. Cleaning helps when dirt is the cause, but a performance check is needed to avoid guessing.

What this may indicate

  • A filter or coil needs cleaning
  • The indoor fan or airflow path is restricted
  • The outdoor unit cannot reject heat properly
  • Refrigerant or control performance needs testing

Safe checks you can make

  • Confirm cooling mode and a suitable temperature
  • Open the room vents and remove visible obstructions
  • Check the safely accessible filter
  • Close doors and windows while testing cooling

When to stop using the unit

Stop the unit if weak cooling is accompanied by ice, water near electrical fittings, a burning smell or repeated tripping.

What Rishthaa will inspect

  • Airflow and temperature difference
  • Filter and coil condition
  • Indoor and outdoor fan operation
  • Refrigerant and electrical performance when indicated

Suitable service

A full service is often suitable when dirt and restricted airflow are found.
